Heritage

The place behind the colour.

A garden, an artist's studio and a meeting of creative lives offer several ways into the story of Jardin Majorelle.

An artist's garden

The garden's own history records Jacques Majorelle beginning its planting in 1922. His work brought painting, architecture and botanical interests into the same setting.

Looking at a place through its maker's interests adds context to a visit. Colour, a framed view or the relationship between a path and a building can become an invitation to look more closely.

A continuing cultural story

Yves Saint Laurent and Pierre Bergé acquired Jardin Majorelle in 1980. The Pierre Bergé Museum of Berber Arts opened in the former painting studio in 2011.

The garden and museum have distinct stories. Reading the institutions' own material helps keep their people, collections and purposes in view, beyond a familiar photograph.

Heritage we describe, not heritage we own

Visit Majorelle is an independent service operated by Apollo Trading UG. We are not the garden's creator, custodian or official ticket office. This history belongs to the place and the people who shaped it.

Our existing History page offers a longer introduction. The timeline provides a brief route through selected, sourced milestones.
